All dumpsters require a permit. The rental company will tell you whether or not a permitting fee is included in the rental charges. There are limits to where you can place it. If you are placing the dumpster in the road: It must be parallel to the curb. It can't protrude more than 8 feet into the road. If you are placing the dumpster on the sidewalk: There is a 7 day maximum. You must have permission from the Director of Public Works. The rules are more relaxed when placing the dumpster on private property. A minimum of 65% of C&D must be recycled. Construction and Demolition (C&D) debris must be recycled at no less than a 65% rate. This rule doesn't apply to small amounts of material less than 1 cubic yard, or property owners hauling the debris in their own vehicle. Drop-off and pick-up have time constraints. No debris boxes may be delivered or hauled away in residential areas between 6pm and 7am, so schedule delivery and pick-up within this time perameter. Please do not place certain types of waste in the dumpster There are a number of types of debris that should not be placed into a dumpster for environmental reasons. Federal law and California law regulate what’s allowed to be dumped at landfills and Bay Area disposal services are required to follow these regulations.
